A former Berry Global, Inc. employee from Saint Helens, OR shared her/his opinion on Indeed in August 2020:
"Horrible, terrible, sweat shop style work. This place is by far the worst place I have ever have had to work at, if it wasn’t for being homeless during the COVID-19 isolation I would have quit shortly after starting like 90% of people do! They don’t care about anyone of their employees! Forcing them to work in inhuman working conditions out of fear for losing their jobs and income to support themselves and family. Under extreme heat swamp fans were rented and used solely to cool the machines to keep them running. The way they treat and speak to their employees is like we are 18th century slaves fresh off the boat from our homeland."
Production Associate (Former Employee) says"The place needs an overall change, when I worked there on my first week I was thrown around trying and was put on two-three machines on my first week without being trained properly. They will scream at you , and automatically expect you to know everything. . the work is simple yet everyone is overwhelmed and overworked where they don't even get the weekend off. If you had any questions about something you'll have people walking away from you or basically tell you learn by yourself. it wouldn't be a door way out if new temps or employees that have been there for years get treated properly or fair enough. Also was uncomfortable experience I was stared at few times while, I was eating lunch and talked behind my back . It would've been more welcoming if trained properly it's an easy job. It's a job and ok healthcareShort breaks, rude employees, poor training"
Forklift Operator (Current Employee) says"This place is by far the worst place I have ever have had to work at, if it wasn’t for being homeless during the COVID-19 isolation I would have quit shortly after starting like 90% of people do! CDL A Driver (Former Employee) says"This is not a place to build any kind of future. They have more temp. workers than full time regular workers. They are slave drivers. They work a weird 12 hr. shift and expect you to work mega overtime. Don’t even think about being a cdl A driver. They will run you down. H.R. & management are the worst that I’ve ever encountered. Don’t put yourself thru it. You will be sorry.Big checksToo much to list"
Operator (Current Employee) says"Berry talks about the people and safety come first. This is far from the true! The company only cares about the bottom line. How much money can you make the company this month. The machines are so old and out dated. All obsolete parts and tell you to be safe and hit production numbers. The overtime never stops. No extra pay for COVID-19 & making products for wipes. Save yourself and stay away! So many injuries at this site!!! It’s extremely hot in the summer!! Co-workersManagement, Management, Management, no advancement, only care about the bottom line"
Flexographic Press Operator (Former Employee) says"You may as well put a camper in the parking lot. Also multiple middle managers looking for any violations to get you fired. Managers have sons working there so good luck moving up. Abusive supervisor on every shift. H.R manager loves to fire people. STAY AWAY!!!!!"
Material Handler/Forklift Operator (Current Employee) says"Just plain terrible. During global health pandemic this company has done very little to protect its employees, they implemented safety procedures months after pandemic started. Claimed their self's essential before essential lists were recorded. 2% pay increase this year, which calculates to 28 to 33 cents. Refusal to pay hazard pay to essential employees. Office staff sent to work from home, while production employees are working side by side putting them and their families in danger Over 100% increase in profits in the last quarter alone. Bonuses this year is less than 50% than last 2 years. Its a jobTerrible job"
Internship (Former Employee) says"Had to work an unpaid internship there as a course requirement. Did not learn a thing, other than cleaning up oil spills because all of their equipment leaked."
Manutentionnaire (Former Employee) says"ni formation ni acueille ni bonjour plus cest mal."
Assistant Supervisor (Current Employee) says"Accidents all the time, your a number here that isn't worth much, people come and go, don't even bother learning names. People loosing fingers and the worst part is if you have a family emergency you can still get fired. Your late your fired. Mother is in the hospital? Don't care your suspended don't waste your time, they hook you with the overtime and when it come times for a raise if your not family or friend(snitch). You only get a .25 cents raise and when new hires come around they get paid the same as youNothingEverything"
Utility (Former Employee) says"They make decisions without investigating well after they make the decision they want. They tell you that they investigated when it is a lie, and then they fire you ...! It's unfortunate that you don't love your job just work for your money ... !! they don't care how well your employer works"
Quality assurance (Former Employee) says"I would not recommend working here unless you like to work hard and go no where with a company. They do not provide and special training to advance in the company and will hire just about anyone. If you are a good worker and would like to advance in a company then this is not the place for you. This is the kind of place that allows the workers to give about 50% of effort and will allow you to stay there as long as you show up to work."
Everything (Former Employee) says"Be careful, do not make to much. Unless you work in the office Then your golden. Get used to no parts No training and as few people on the floor as possibleNoneMost things"
Quality Control Inspector (Former Employee) says"Job performance does not matter at all. Everyone is just another number. Management will sometimes pretend to care about issues brought up by hourly employees, then nothing is done to remedy said situation.NoneVery poor management, 12hr night shift"
Maintenance Technician 2 (Former Employee) says"Berry is not your ideal company. Management has no connection with production nor maintenance. They will tell/promise you things during the hiring process that they will not stick to & threaten to fire you if you ask. Hr is Terrible. No open door policy even though they tell you that. The plant manager has no respect for anyone and he shows it. It’s a Tattletale buddy system"
Maintenance Technician (Former Employee) says"The company would be better if they had better management and HR staff. They are judgemental towards a woman working in Maintenance. I was told that no woman should be in Maintenance."
Press Operator (Current Employee) says"The management and supervisors play favorites and Human Resources is the worst. You can never get a hold of them for any employee assistance. The Macedon plant has to be the worst facility to work for. I do not recommend anyone work here. They are bunch of liars. The plant manager is a great guy but the people under him need to all to be replaced.Days off, great plant managerManagement"
Maintenance Supervisor (Former Employee) says"Extremely poorly managed, comes down from the corporate level. The local HR dept is a train wreck. The HR manager has no idea what she is doing and is a poor leader. Maintenance manager, followed suit. Hes a promoted mechanic and has no idea how to run a maintenance department.Long hours expected daily."
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) says"Always trying to find fault and never the positive. production manager is always one sided unapproachable , will lie straight to your face always takes the word of a maleIts a jobMiserable place to work"
Extrusion operator (Former Employee) says"Smoked out plant daily very stressful manegment and job. huge health risk cancer material spreads through the air throughout a 12-hour shift. That you have to breathe in for that time if there's not enough staff you don't get a break in that 12 hoursBonuses are goodUncontroller ventalation bad management"
